GHANA NATIONAL COUNCIL JOINS CITY LEADERS IN TRIBUTE TO DuSABLE'S LEGACY
September 29, 2025. The Ghana National Council of Metropolitan Chicago was honored to be invited by Mayor Brandon Johnson to attend the ceremony honoring the legacy of Jean Baptiste Point DuSable, the founder of Chicago. The event took place yesterday at the iconic Pioneer Court.
The evening was a rich celebration of history and culture, featuring a strong presence of Haitian Americans, including representatives from the Haitian American Museum of Chicago and the DuSable Heritage Association. City officials, dignitaries, and community leaders gathered to pay tribute to a visionary whose foundational work helped shape the city we know today.

Highlights of the event included inspiring keynote speeches by Dilla, a Chicago-based urban historian and popular social media personality known for his engaging short videos on the city’s history and culture; Nicolas Paul, President of the DuSable Heritage Association; and Mayor Brandon Johnson.It was truly a privilege to be present among such legacy and excellence. Our executives had the opportunity to meet and network with fellow immigrant leaders, community organizations, and city officials—connections that continue to strengthen the fabric of this great city.GNC looks forward to fostering a strong and collaborative relationship with the Mayor’s Office and other organizations, working together to support the growth and prosperity of our Ghanaian community.
Chicago Illinois - September 22, 2025, the Ghana National Council of Chicago (GNC) was honored to be represented at the PEACE DAY CHICAGO 47th Anniversary Celebration, held at Daley Plaza. This event was part of the International Day of Peace (World Peace Day)—a United Nations–sanctioned holiday celebrated globally each year. At this historic gathering, Mr. Ameyaw, current Sergeant-at-Arms of GNC proudly carried and waved the Ghana flag, representing the nation with dignity and pride.
Matteson, Illinois – August 24, 2025 — The Ghana National Council (GNC) of Chicago proudly announces the successful completion of Mr. Emmanuel Asiedu’s three-year, $30,000 pledge in support of the Ghanaian Community Health Clinic (GCHC). During a presentation in Matteson, Illinois, Mrs. Elizabeth Asiedu delivered the final $10,000 to GNC President Mr. Kassim Abubakari, marking the official fulfillment of this visionary and remarkable commitment.

Chicago, IL — The Ghana National Council of Chicago (GNC), along with its affiliate associations, regrets to formally announce the cancellation of Ghanafest Chicago 2025, which had been scheduled for July in Washington Park. After an emergency meeting held on April 6, 2025, during which a majority of affiliated associations voted in favor of cancellation, the difficult decision was driven by unforeseen circumstances beyond our control.
